Communicatie met de buitenwereld tijdens deze rally is niet vanzelfsprekend, als je 10-16 uur aan het rijden bent en nauwelijks tijd hebt om bij te komen. Vannacht kregen we dan bericht via email hoe het t.n.t. gegaan is. Zo kreeg de ambulance iets onder Parijs pech: een gebroken V-snaar maar doordat ze in een convooi met 6 teams rijden, reed de ambulance door hulp van anderen binnen 20 minuten alweer op de weg.
Waar de rally om draait, wordt mooi verwoord door Julian Watson:
The Amsterdam Dakar Challenge is truly a rally of comradeship which the Caribbean team is starting to realize, with some warm hospitality in the winter of southern Europe. The team drives now in a convoy of 7 cars, Eric and Herman driving an animal ambulance from Alkmaar,
Joris and Sierd in a Daihatsu Rocky, Talitha and Vera in a Mitsubish Van, Jilmer and Mark in a Volkswagon, Joos and Lud in a Nissan Patrol and Arian and Manfred also in a Nissan Patrol and ofcourse Julian and Bodil in the Peugot .
On a personal level the team is now coming to a serious time of reflection, commitment and pure experience, friendships are made and team bonding becomes the most important as day by day the team want to be back with their families and friends and home comforts.
Vandaag rijdt het team de Sahara binnen waar geen telefonisch contact met de buitenwereld zal zijn. Een lokale gids zal hen de juiste weg door de woestijn wijzen.
